A 12 x 16 inch photo print is a large near-rectangular print on Fuji photo paper, made from the photograph you upload in portrait or landscape. It sits between the tall sizes and the square ones, which is why it fits walls the others cannot.

Because the wall decided it. Alcoves, chimney breasts and the gap between a door and a corner are fixed dimensions. 12 x 16 fills several of them where 12 x 18 is an inch too long.
