Boards differ in tone, not only grain

Timber cut from different parts of a tree runs lighter or darker. Two plaques ordered on the same day can arrive noticeably different in overall warmth, even before the grain pattern is considered.

Why we do not correct it

How it affects the image

A darker board gives a lower-contrast engraving, since the cut areas have less light surface to work against. On a very dark piece a high-contrast photograph matters more.

Adding both names
