24 x 36 inch photo print is three feet on the long side, and people judge it in the wrong way. They put their nose to it, find a soft edge, and conclude something has gone wrong.
Six inches against six feet
Nobody looks at a three-foot print from six inches away. It is seen from across a room, and at that distance detail that looks soft close up resolves into a perfectly sharp picture.
Stand back to roughly one and a half times the longest side. For this print that is around four and a half feet, and that is the honest place to judge it from.

Where the file still matters
