What standard actually means here

It means the card does its job without drawing attention to the card itself. Smooth stock, clean print, no texture and no coating that fights a pen. For most businesses that is the right answer, and the textured stocks exist for the cases where it is not.

Portrait or landscape

Landscape is the convention, and the one card holders are designed around. Portrait stands out for exactly that reason. It suits a layout built round a logo rather than round a name, and both are available at no difference in cost.

The stock ladder

Using the back of the card

How many to print

More than you think, and fewer than a printer will try to sell you. Contact details change. A box of five thousand cards carrying an old mobile number is a more expensive mistake than a slightly higher unit price on a smaller run.

Writing on a card
