What rigidity is actually for
A hard cover does two things a soft one cannot. It keeps the book square on a shelf over years rather than months, and it survives being handled by people who did not pay for it. That is why thesis books, annual reports and coffee table books use it and why a price list does not. The cheapest binding of the four is our staple binding booklets.
Choosing the inside paper
100 GSM normal paper suits text-heavy books and keeps the weight down. 130 GSM art glossy is the usual choice for anything with photographs. 170 GSM art glossy is heavier again and worth it for image-led books, though it limits how many pages will sit comfortably in the binding. Hard cover against the other three bindings
Soft cover binding glues the pages into a flexible laminated cover and costs less. Wiro binding lets the book lie flat. Staple pin binding is the cheapest and suits thin books. Hard cover is the only one built for long-term use. See our soft cover binding booklets for the commercial alternative.

A digital proof is shared for your approval, and printing begins only after you confirm it. That approval time sits inside the two to three day processing window, so a slow sign-off delays the job rather than the printing itself.
