Why this is the commercial default

It looks finished, it posts without a box, and it costs a fraction of a hard cover. For anything printed in dozens and handed to clients, that combination is hard to argue with. The trade-off is a spine that shows wear if the book is carried about daily. A cheaper binding again is our staple binding booklets.

Glossy or matte on the cover

Glossy lifts photographs and saturated brand colours. Matte is quieter, marks less obviously with fingerprints, and photographs better in a meeting room. On a cover people will hold, matte usually ages better than glossy does. The half-size version is our soft cover A5 booklet.

Soft cover against hard cover and staple

Approving it before the run

A digital proof is shared for approval and nothing is printed until you confirm it. Check the page order on the proof rather than the cover, because a page sequence error in a glued book cannot be corrected afterwards.
